2nd June 2026

It has been a bit of an odd day for weather today - thick fog and haar lasted most of the day, which made work a bit tricky (I think I pulled it off though!). When it wasn’t foggy it was raining - so one of the jobs that has been hanging around a few days was pushed back to tomorrow (again) in the hope that I can actually get the drone up!

4th June 2026

An absolutely mad day today! Still working at 1:35am getting the last of the video edits done and out…. Tomorrow we pack and off on adventures - I may or may not be updating whilst away!

Arrival in Iceland

8th June 2026

18th June 2026

Today took me to a new corner of the Highlands, along Loch Long from Dornie. What a spectacular corner of Scotland it is too!

Unfortunately the weather was a little "challenging" for both the job and any landscapes, but I have made a mental note of a few spots to return to!

20th June 2026

Just an old field barn for today. A bit of drama on the way back from getting the weekly shop in!

22nd June 2026

Roki failing to be classy tonight - it’s been “one of those days”.

1st June 2026

It’s been a busy day of doing something different - shooting an advertising video! The weather was terrible, there was a lot of driving and much of it had to come off on a single take… but I kind of like the end result! Some bits could be better… granted… but I am now thinking that a Nikon ZR Cinema body may be in the near future to replace the Z6II as my big video camera of choice. The Osmo Pocket 3 really reached it’s usable limits today, probably due to the rain!

I have a decent day lined up for tomorrow before a (currently) quiet Wednesday in which I hope to get the new chicken run up after a wee floorplan job in town in the morning. Thursday is crazy… then packing and holiday!

3rd June 2026

Today has been a big prep day ready for our trip which is coming up super fast now! A couple of little jobs were needing tidied up ahead of tomorrows monster session, along with some shopping for essentials and building a chicken run (which took a lot longer than anticipated - hence tonights late finish!)

My PC is playing up too… it is getting a little old now mind. I am just hoping it holds out a bit longer as the new ARM based systems look really useful for photography and video work!

10th June 2026

16th June 2026

I would say normal service is resumed, but the desktop PC is running terribly at the moment. I am waiting for Asus to bring out their new 2 in 1 Snapdragon machine as a stop gap… to keep me going until autumn… when the new nVidia machines hit the market - absolutely purpose designed for my work! They will need a bit of additional equipment in the form of some kind of a drive station for mass storeage, but that can happen earlier (to support the 2 in 1).

Anyway - Loch Ness for today.

5th June 2026

Roki off for his holidays!

On the way home from Iceland

14th June 2026

A welcome home visitor!

26th June 2026

It has not been a great day for photography today. I had to shelve a drone job as… well… this! If it’s better over the weekend I will try and wrap it up as it won’t take long to do.

There was an interior shoot though, which I am going to get stuck in to the edit over the weekend. It will be a good opportunity to work with Capture One rather than Lightroom as it’s fairly low output numbers… just really complex edits of multiple frames to get there!

28th June 2026

Been a busy day - finally caught up with an edit from Friday but a drone job that I wanted to get done from last week was a non-starter (again) due to the wind. I have stacked that one into a mega day tomorrow and hope that the conditions hold up enough to get it done.

Anyway - Magnus and Pickes occupying the same space without violence is a worthy subject to photograph.

30th June 2026

Been a very, very busy day to end the month on. The rest of this week is not slowing down much - although I have booked myself (most of) a day off on Friday to catch up with some dark room work!

This boat was coming down the canal as I was hotfooting it back to Drum for the school run this afternoon and was so magnificent that I had to stop for a quick photograph!

9th June 2026

15th June 2026

Back to work - and the week started with a pair of “Commended” awards in the BIPP monthlies, which is a nice post holiday boost!

Been a bit of a challenge with the PC today - it is on it’s way out I think! I have plans for a 2 in 1 to replace the iPad (which is even further down that slope) and that should have enough grunt to handle most my daily work if needs be too as I await the new nVidia RTX Spark systems which look purpose built for what I need! Roll on autumn!

Anyway, off to a busy week back!

17th June 2026

Today I was off to Torridon, unfortunately I didn’t find a great deal of time for any “me” work - but this old building has been on my “to shoot” list for a while and whilst I was short on time… I had just about enough for this!

The big disaster though - the wee shop in Kinlochewe that sells THE BEST sausage rolls and a white chocolate and cranberry flapjack to die for… was closed.

Anyway, still trying to decide what to do PC wise. This one is doing okay on photography still, but is really struggling with video work - which is a growing area for me! I will give it a couple more weeks and see if the machine that I have been waiting for arrives, otherwise it may be a bit of an “option B” route.

19th June 2026

It has been a fairly quiet day, workwise, but stressful enough with the traffic… a random bull in the road… and taking Magnus to the vets for his annual check up and injections. We are all absolutely shattered from Iceland still, and I really need to edit some photos from that trip up for this month’s BIPP competition too!

A productive week though, even if I am still no closer to deciding what to do about the ailing PC!

21st June 2026

Today is the Summer Solstice, the first day of summer - and it has arrived with blue skies, sunshine, warm temperatures (mid 20s I think) and a whole lot of green!

I, however, have largely spent the day catching up on the laundry from our trip to Iceland that has been sitting developing new lifeforms since we got back a week ago - work has been pretty full on this last week as I have been playing catch up. Next week is also looking pretty busy with some trips out of the immediate area to enjoy too!

24th June 2026

Helmsdale has always been an important and prominent place in our families history - and today it was looking particularly splendid.

23rd June 2026

Today I was off to the Isle of Skye and Glen Brittle - it was an absolutely glorious day, entirely not my kind of thing for landscapes, but perfect for some property shots!

It was a bit of a hike through a field of cattle to get from the parking area to the house mind! They didn’t seem at all bothered by my presence though and were way more obliging for a photograph than my dog was last night!

25th June 2026

Just finished today’s edits - a half one end to the day amidst a magnificent thunder storm with flashes of lightning all around.

Today’s photo is a baby gull that I rescued on a job in Nairn today!

As well as rescuing birds and finishing work at a rediculous late hour, I have also got my entries in for the Outdoor Photography “One Thing” - which included this fellow - and some submissions to the BIPP Monthlies… not everything I wanted, but so many need a re-edit and I neither have had the time or a well enough PC to do the work on, so they may have to hold off until July!

This is not my favourite time of year for photography mind… but I had a couple I rather liked to go in!

27th June 2026

Today was the Inverness Photo Walk in conjunction with Analogue Wonderland and David Southward of Wild Arena/Forsinard Lodge.

I almost - almost - decided not to go... I am in a bit of a weird place in my head just now but forced myself out the door.

My mojo really wasn't with me today, but I shot some film (and a couple of digital photos too because my ongoing for the last 16 years Photo a Day project can't wait on my tardy processing and scanning schedule!)

Anyway... I am glad I went along. I kept the "day job" under wraps largely - although some folk who were along know what I do - and just tried to have a sociable amble about the city.

Next Saturday I have another social photography shindig too... I will probably need to talk myself into that one as well!

29th June 2026

Today has been busy - with work taking me to Dingwall, Munlochy and then along the Great Glen to the far end of Loch Oich before returning to Balnain via Invermorrison. I am not going to get all the edits done today... as I am pretty much done now!

It was nice to get a different view of the glen though as I don't often get past Fort Augustus! The only downside was that when the rain stopped the midges came out in force, something we don't get to "enjoy" so much further to the east!
