The final results of the British Institute of Professional Photography’s monthly competition is in, and I made it a mission to actually enter this year. It’s been a pretty solid season for me to kick things off with 8 Commended and 1 Bronze award over the 10 rounds. True, I would have liked to have done better… but I am still getting my head in the game - and to be honest I am using it mostly as a means to gain experience in what the judges are looking for before submitting my next panel.
The year, in general, is winding down for winter now - I am hoping that I keep busy for a few more weeks yet… and I am hoping that the winter slow down is less dramatic than last year which was compounded by the onslaught of AI really hitting me hard. I recovered from that set back in rather dramatic fashion and am now planning my next moves as I look to build horizontally from my current position looking to add more fine-art print sales and high end bespoke commercial shoots. This may take a little more than the next year, however, but I think 2027 will be the year of setting some wheels in motion.
My awards for 2026 can be found here and I hope to add a 2027 gallery in the new year as I redouble my efforts!
And, yes, I need to do more to showcase my day to day work! As things quieten down for the winter it is something I plan to start looking into more. I need to build an additional step into my workflow to export web-size images that I can showcase! I will also be adding a new project, but I think that will belong more on Wayward Spirit’s Studio as it is going to be firmly in the arts sphere. I aim to add an “analogue photo of the week” showcase to run alongside my “photo a day” project that is kicking off into it’s 17th consecutive year on January 1st. Hopefully there will also be more video - both showcasing my moving work as well as behind the scenes on all aspects of my work flow.
Finally, for the moment, you may have noticed another distinction has appeared on the website. I was awarded my LRPS from the Royal Photographic Society this week… so there are things going on in that direction too next year!
You know - I am rather looking forward to 2027. There is going to be a lot going on!
A Solid Start
