2025 - First shout
Today was the day the “season” kicked off. I wasn’t actually intending to be on duty today… far less expecting anything to kick off. The canal is still closed for the winter so few boats are on the loch at the moment. But there was an absence of Launch Authorities available so I stuck my name in for today. Just as I was starting to yell at the offspring (collective) that we had to leave very soon… that distinctive pager sound set off. I checked the log and, yes, I was on duty (as of about an hour before) so it was a call to the Coast Guard in Aberdeen to set everything in motion for a launch then down to the station to manage all that side of things.
It was grim out - when the crew got back they reported 2m high waves down Loch Ness with some very challenging conditions. The call turned out to be an overzealous shout by a Police Officer rather than anything that actually required a rescue so in the end it was all for naught (but we have to go and check on the off chance that someone is in trouble!).
This was going to be today’s photo of the day, before I got a little creative testing the mini drone!
Anyway, all back safe and sound - I have work booked in for tomorrow and Friday that will keep me reasonably tied up and the reports are that next week is looking quite promising so we shall see! Nothing in from the new agency as yet, which is a little disappointing as they were stressing urgency. But maybe next week that will start to come to something?
