I was not expecting that!

The first week of the October break and I was expecting it to be deathly silent… but no, it turned into one of the busiest weeks since the start of the summer holidays! I am now worried about taking next week off in case everything goes quiet whilst I am away!

But next week is all part of my long term plans for photography, and about making some big steps forward in the other side of things - the fine art prints side. If I can be accepted next week then that should open some doors to perhaps get a degree program underway in the autumn on an accelerated pathway - I am just working on how I am going to do that and where, there is a distance learning path that I could look at through either the Open College of Arts (part time) or Falmouth University (potentially full time, which I would prefer as it comes with some fringe benefits as well as getting me on my intended track somewhat faster!). But there are also some good courses in Scotland, at Aberdeen, Edinburgh or… if I really push the boat out, Glasgow School of Art. They may all require a certain degree of attendance though which may or may not be possible. These are all discussions for later though, once I have hopefully received at least a Licentateship.

Why a degree though? Well it is to help me gain both a certain level of credability in the arts world, but also to open doors and hopefully be able to speak the same language as those operating galleries or art buyers. I don’t speak “artist” very well and struggle to explain what it is that I am doing, why I am doing it and what it all means… in other words… I don’t have the right words to sell my art! I think partially for fear of sounding a little pretentious, which is very much something I am not!

Anyway, this is all for later, right now I am continuing to concentrate mainly on the commercial side of photography whilst building up my skills to work analogue for the art side again. Working with film is a very different beast to digitial, and my intention to work largely with hand made prints is creating an even larger mountain to face!

Here are some from this week though.
